A member of the board of representatives of the Bushehr Chamber of Commerce takes up the national demand of Iran’s laboratories

At a meeting between a member of the board of representatives of the Bushehr Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture, the head of the province’s association of cooperating testing and calibration laboratories, and the Director General of Industry, Mining and Trade of Bushehr, the capacity of the province’s standard laboratories and the most important demands of the field were reviewed.

The meeting stressed the need to support the development of laboratory services, to strengthen the role of laboratories in industry and trade, and to pursue the allocation of an independent ISIC code to Iran’s standard laboratories.

Pointing to the province’s strategic position in international trade, the member of the board of representatives of the Bushehr Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture said: with its specialized infrastructure, technical capacity and particular position in exports and imports, Bushehr is one of the country’s main hubs for standard laboratories.

Seyed Hossein Razavi added: the development of laboratory infrastructure in recent years has played an effective part in raising product quality, easing export and import processes and strengthening the province’s industry and trade, and that part will grow further with the formation of the Bushehr free trade and industrial zone.

He described the lack of an independent ISIC code as one of the structural challenges facing Iran’s standard laboratories and said: an independent ISIC code would give the industry a clear identity and make way for more precise policy-making, simpler administrative processes, purposeful planning and more effective support for the country’s some five thousand standard laboratories.

Stressing the chamber of commerce’s part in pursuing the private sector’s demands, the head of the Bushehr association of cooperating testing and calibration laboratories asked the Directorate General of Industry, Mining and Trade to support raising and pursuing this demand at the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade.

He also proposed that, given its existing capacity and infrastructure, Bushehr province be chosen as the pilot for allocating an independent ISIC code to the country’s standard laboratories.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the member of the board of representatives of the Bushehr Chamber of Commerce described the province’s standard laboratories as among the most complete laboratory centres in the country in several specialized fields and added: the only independent, active air-conditioner testing laboratory in Iran holding the international ISO/IEC 17025 certificate works in Bushehr province.

Razavi went on: this organization takes an active part in revising the international standards of the air-conditioner industry and is known as the only Iranian expert on the Middle East air-conditioner technical committee.

Later in the meeting, the Director General of Industry, Mining and Trade of Bushehr province welcomed the capacity and capability of the province’s standard laboratories and said: following the correspondence through the government and private sector dialogue council at the province’s Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture, pursuing an ISIC code for standard laboratories at the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade is firmly on this directorate’s agenda.

Nasrollah Keshavarz added: introducing the province’s service capacity and capability to large industries, and especially to the petrochemical complexes based in Bushehr, has always been a concern of the province’s senior management.

He stressed: this will be pursued just as seriously for standard laboratories, so as to widen technical cooperation, raise the quality of specialized services, support local capability and further develop the infrastructure of this industry in the province.
